18 November 2024
13:15 – 14:45 (GMT+4)
Climate, Peace & Transboundary Resilience (ODI) Pavilion | COP29
Co-hosted by the Global Shield Secretariat & Global Shield Solutions Platform (GSSP)
This COP29 side event will highlight key outcomes of the first Global Shield country to submit a Request for Support – Ghana – and explore both the technical and financial assistance provided as part of the Global Shield Support Package. The event will delve into how Ghana is leveraging the African Risk Capacity’s product to complement its sovereign-level protection and secure financial resilience. Additionally, the discussion will cover a pilot of an urban flood insurance developed for Greater Metropolitan Area of Accra, which could be scaled up with support by the Global Shield Solutions Platform. The side event will also highlight how the Global Shield supports fragile and conflict-affected states (FCAS), with a focus on the case of Somalia. Complementing the beforementioned topics, it will showcase how the Global Shield employs an inclusive approach, collaborating with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to amplify the voices of the most vulnerable, as demonstrated in Senegal.
