Global Shield is launching a new webinar series to support ongoing learning, exchange, and engagement around Climate and Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance (CDRFI). Designed with Global Shield partner countries in mind, the series is also relevant to anyone looking for practical, real-world insights into how countries understand risk, design solutions, and make financial protection more effective and inclusive.
The programme will include four thematic webinars, bringing together experts, partners, and practitioners to share experience and practical insights intended to reinforce key concepts, introduce core topics, and connect learning to country-level realities.
The series follows a clear progression: understanding the problem, designing solutions, and making them inclusive. Topics will range from climate analytics for CDRFI decision-making, to the design of financial instruments, to inclusive insurance for the last mile, and gender-smart CDRFI.
The first webinar, “Seeing the Risk: Using Climate Risk Analytics for CDRFI Decision-Making,” will take place on 28 July 2026 and will run for 90 minutes on MS Teams, from 11:00 to 12:30 CEST. It responds to a clear priority across Global Shield partner countries: strengthening the ability to access, interpret, and apply climate risk information for planning, fiscal risk management, and financial protection strategies. The session will explore how climate risk analytics can support better decision-making in practice, with technical, country, and practitioner perspectives from GRMA, Madagascar, Africa Risk Capacity Ltd., and Malawi.
This first webinar is a strong entry point into the series because it starts with the foundation: understanding risk. Participants will hear how climate risk information is generated, translated into financial protection solutions, and used in national decision-making, before the series moves on to deeper questions of design, inclusion, and responsiveness.
