Coordination Hub

The Global Shield Coordination Hub is a coordination mechanism set up to provide overarching technical work and global coordination of implementation efforts under the Global Shield. The Coordination Hub shares the common ambition to strengthen the global Climate and Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance (CDRFI) architecture and promote more systematic, coherent, and sustained financial protection for climate vulnerable countries.

Role of the Coordination Hub

The main functions of the Coordination Hub are:



Facilitate coordination of CDRFI-related projects at global, regional, and country level



Support the mobilization of resources and facilitate the best-fit solutions for Global Shield countries

Inform and enhance Global Shield programming by deploying and developing common principles, standards, and metrics



Provide a forum for inclusive consultations on Global Shield-related matters, mobilizing partners’ and stakeholders’ networks and facilitating dialogue to maximize synergies and crowd in relevant perspectives



Facilitate knowledge and evidence sharing to inform stakeholders on the Global Shield and its offer to countries with the aim of reducing duplication of efforts, and to ensure efficiency and transparency

Coordination Hub Members

Membership of the Coordination Hub reflects the mandate of a strengthened coordination mechanism within the global CDRFI architecture to overcome fragmentation and leverage the full potential of CDRFI. As such, the focus lies on technical collaboration of institutions with global or regional mandates to design, fund or deliver financial protection to climate and disaster risks in vulnerable countries. Governance

The governance structure of the Global Shield consists of the Global Shield Board and the Global Shield Coordination Hub.

Financing Structure

Additional Global Shield financing is provided by a central Financing Structure, consisting of the Global Shield Solutions Platform, the Global Shield Financing Facility, and the Climate Vulnerable Forum & V20 Joint Multi-Donor Fund.

Board

The Global Shield Board provides political and strategic oversight over the Global Shield against Climate Risks and provides overall guidance to the Global Shield.

Activities

The Global Shield against Climate Risk aims to support countries that are most vulnerable to climate risks.
