The Global Shield’s Support Offer
The Global Shield addresses climate-related losses and damages in climate vulnerable countries by providing more and better pre-arranged and trigger-based finance. The Global Shield supports governments in identifying its most critical financial protection gaps and in accessing pre-arranged financing mechanisms that best respond to the country’s specific needs.
An integral part of the Global Shield’s support offer is a series of inclusive and country-led consultations, the In-Country Process. It engages a broad array of stakeholders relevant to advancing Climate and Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance (CDRFI) in the national context – with a focus on the needs and perspectives of climate vulnerable and affected groups, including historically marginalised groups. The In-Country Process is hosted by the governments of the Global Shield countries and supported by a local support structure.
Representatives of interested climate vulnerable countries are invited to express their interest in becoming a Global Shield country through the Global Shield Secretariat. The Calls for Expressions of Interest will be announced on the Global Shield Website on a regular basis.
To receive updates on the In-Country Processes in the Global Shield countries and to learn more about how to get involved, the Global Shield invites policymakers, experts and practitioners from the field of CDRFI to join the Global Shield Country Communities for the respective Global Shield country and/or region. The Country Communities are open to both international and local stakeholders and are coordinated by the Global Shield Secretariat.
